Throughout the world, boys and girls prefer to play with different types of toys.
Boys typically like to play with cars and trucks, while girls typically choose to play
with dolls. Why is this A traditional sociological(社会学的) explanation is that
boys and girls are socialized and encouraged to play with different types of toys by
their parents, peers(同等的人), and the "society". Growing scientific evidence
suggests, however, that boys' and girls' toy preferences(较喜欢的东西) may have a
biological origin.
In 2002, Gerianne M. Alexander of Texas A&M University and Melissa
Hines of City University in London surprised the scientific world by showing that
monkeys showed the same sex typical toy preferences as humans. In the study,
Alexander and Hines gave two masculine(男性的,雄性的) toys (a ball and a police
car), two feminine(女性) toys (a soft doll and a cooking pot), and two neutral(中
性的) toys (a picture book and a stuffed dog 填充玩具) to 44 male and 44 female
monkeys. They then assessed(评估、评价) the monkeys' preference for each toy by
measuring how much time they spent with each. Their data showed that male
monkeys showed significantly(值得注目地) greater interest in the masculine toys,
and the female monkeys showed significantly greater interest in the feminine toys.
The two sexes did not differ in their preference for the neutral toys.
If children' s toy preferences were largely formed by gender socialization, as
traditional sociologists' claim, in which their parents give "gender appropriate(适当
的、合适的)" toys to boys and girls, how can these male and female monkeys have
the same preferences as boys and girls? They were never socialized by humans, and
they had never seen these toys before in their lives.

Do you like chocolate It's popular all over the world, but why Scientists have
been trying to discover its secrets. The main thing is that chocolate makes us happy.
Some people think that we feel good after eating chocolate because of a special
chemical called anandamide(大麻素) in it. This occurs naturally in the brain and
seems to give us a feeling of happiness. Normally, our levels of the chemical are
very low and our body uses it quickly. But two scientists, Emmanuelle di Tomaso
of Harvard University and Daniele Piomelli of theUniversity of California believe that
eating chocolate raises the levels of the chemical in our brain. And other substances in
chocolate slow down the speed at which we use the chemical. So, chocolate helps us
feel happier for longer!
But which chocolate is the best Well, for a start, there’s more anandamide in dark
chocolate than milk chocolate. Besides, you should follow these five suggestions:
1.sight: good chocolate has a shine to it.
2.Smell: rub the chocolate with your finger to release a deep chocolate smell.
3.Sound: when you break a piece of chocolate it should create a sound similar to
that of a thin piece of wood being broken.
4.Touch:the chocolate should melt easily in your mouth becoming a thick liquid.
5.Taste:good chocolate should not taste too sweet or too bitter.
So why don’t you go out and buy some chocolate and put it to the test!
( )43.According to the passage, ______.
A.our body can’t make anandarmide.
B. without anandarmide, people still feel happy.
C.eating chocolate can slow down the speed of using anandarmide.
D. chocolate can help us live longer.
( )44.Which of the following is not mentioned by the author as advice on
choosing chocolate
A.smell B.shape C.sound D.taste
( )45.What is the author’s attitude
A.We should eat more chocolate to be happier.
B.We can have a try to buy some chocolate.
C.We don’t want to buy chocolate because the scientists made mistakes.
D.The conclusion don’t need to be proved.
