Improving our Handwriting
Good handwriting does bring us lots of benefits. It not only allows us to express ourselves better but also gives pleasure to the readers. What’ s more, good handwriting contributes to higher scores in the exams.
There are two tips to improve our handwriting. For one thing, we can write Chinese characters well by practising brush calligraphy, which is a traditional and elegant art. It is known that many famous artists in Chinese history have left outstanding calligraphy works. For another thing, we can also follow copybooks in our spare time to improve our English handwriting. Don’t forget to ask our teachers for guidance when necessary.
As an old saying goes, “ practice makes perfect. ” With effort, we’ll definitely improve our handwriting.
读后续写
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I still remember it was a Monday morning in spring, when my teacher called me to his office, telling me that I had taken first place in the writing contest, and that I was the only winner whose native language wasn't English. Dominated(控制,支配) by an overwhelming(难以抗拒的)sense of excitement and pride at his words, I simply stood there dumbfounded(目瞪口呆的), and my feet, as if rooted to the ground, couldn’t move a bit. The next day, I was presented with my award and a certificate at the ceremony.
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. Giggling instantly with a broad smile spreading on his face(with 复合结构),he told me that he was proud of my wonderful performance. It was at that moment that a warm surge of(一股) streams washed through my body, and the image of the horse emerged in my mind, encouraging me to continue writing. Indeed, I got a taste of victory and learned to pursue my dream with perseverance(毅力), whatever difficulties might arise.

W: Hello, everyone. Today, we’ve invited Herbert Wilde to participate in our program. He is a Swiss writer born in Italy, becoming one of Britain’s most popular playwrights. Herbert, can you talk about your burdens as a celebrity
M: Once a person becomes famous, he would pay for it by giving up the freedom to express himself with his own style. He is always living under too much attention without privacy. So I do need a normal and peaceful life.
W: I can understand your feelings. Well, if you have a second chance to make a decision, what will you choose, fame or freedom
M: I’ll choose the latter. I want to be the person I want to be, instead of the person others want. And I want to draw my inspiration from the quiet countryside one day.
W: I really appreciate your courage to follow your heart. I hope that you can live a happy life and write more good works. But I also hope you can try your best to balance your work and life.

Despite the loneliness, Elsie made a decision to remain in the town she called home. But don’t mistake her loneliness for boredom or idleness. This strong-willed woman keeps herself remarkably busy. In 2020, pink launched the world Regret survey, the largest survey on the topic ever undertaken. with his research team, Pink asked more than 15, 000people in105countries,“How often do you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently ” Most of them said regret was at least an occasional part of their life. Roughly 21 percent said they felt regretful all the time. Only 1 percent said they never felt regretful.
If you are of the “no regrets ” school of life, you may think that all this regret is a recipe for unhappiness. But that isn’t the case. Letting yourself be overwhelmed by regret is indeed bad for you. But going to the other extreme maybe even worse. To extinguish your regrets doesn’t free you from shame or sorrow but causes you to make the same mistakes again and again. To truly get over our guilt requires that we put regret in its proper place.
Uncomfortable as it is, regret is an amazing cognitive feat. It requires that you go back to a past scene. Imagine that you acted differently to change it, and with that new scene in mind, arrive at a different present—and then, compare that fictional present with the one you are experiencing in reality. Not all regrets are the same, of course. Pink says they come in four basic varieties, and an instance of regret may involve just one combination.
Many connection regrets overlap(重叠)with moral regrets, which can come about after you go against your own values. For example, you may pride yourself on being a loving person, and thus regret not living up to this image in the relationship you harmed. Moral regrets can also involve just yourself. Maybe you regret not living up to your commitment to your health when you ate a whole pizza or skipped the gym.
If not analyzed and managed, any variety of regret can be harmful to your well-being. Regret is linked to depression and anxiety, and excessive regret can adversely affect your immune system. But regret doesn’t have to be put aside and ignored.
28. What could be concluded from Pink’s research
A. Half of the people felt regretful.
B. Most people lived without regrets.
C. None could live a life without regrets.
D. The majority of the people had regrets.
29. What does the underlined word “extinguish” in paragraph2 mean
A. Admit. B. Destroy. C. Treasure. D. Encounter.
30. What isparagraph4mainly about
A. The harm of moral regrets.
B. The importance of commitment.
C. The relationship between regrets and values.
D. The connection between reality and imagination.
31. what might the author continue talking about
A. Types of regrets. B. Causes of regrets.
C. Benefits of experiencing regrets. D. ways of dealing with regrets.
D
We don’t think with a pen and paper. We “think” with Google. We don’t even have to complete the search question ourselves. Google’s auto-complete function takes that burden off our shoulders by telling us what we should be searching for and what we should be thinking. We then sort through selected results to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything. This process gives us the false impression of thinking—when, in reality, we’ve lost touch with one of the most basic of human experiences.
Thinking for yourself isn’t just about reducing external inputs. It’s about making thought an intentional practice and thinking about an issue before researching it. It’s about forgetting the habit of immediately looking to others for answers and instead becoming curious about our own thoughts.
Deep thinking requires time. It’s only by concentrating on the problem or question long enough that you’ll dive deeper and locate better insights. Most of us resist setting aside time for deep thinking because it doesn’t produce immediate obvious results. But ideas, as the filmmaker David Lynch puts it, are like fish: “If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper.”
After you’ve gone deeper on a question by thinking about it yourself, turn to reading what others have written about it. But don’t pause your own thinking. The goal of reading isn’t just to understand. It’s to treat what you read as a tool-a key to unlocking what’s inside of you. Some of the best ideas that come up when I’m reading a book aren’t from the book. An idea I read will often knock out a related thought in me that was previously hidden. The text will act as a mirror, helping me see myself and my thoughts more clearly.
Breakthroughs lie—not in absorbing all the wisdom outside of you-but in uncovering the wisdom within you.
32. Why does the author mention Google in the first paragraph
A. To compare it with pens and paper.
B. To stress its convenience to our life.
C. To give examples of its multi-function.
D. To remind us to do the real thinking.
33. What does the underlined phrase “external inputs” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Sharing your ideas online. B. Asking questions about life.
C. Seeking answers from others. D. Making intentional thoughts.
34. What does David Lynch think of deep thinking
A. It is a waste of time. B. It is worth the effort.
C. It requires basic skills. D. It is widely accepted.
35. Why does the author suggest reading after thinking
A. To find out ideas from books. B. To fully absorb others’ wisdom.
C. To bring out our inner thoughts. D. To understand the question better.

One Second Every Day
I’ve been in advertising for eight years and used to work a lot of late nights and weekends for numerous projects. 1 One day I watched a talk called “The power of time off”. It’s about how every seven years, the speaker takes a year off from work so he can do his own creative projects. 2 I decided I had to do that. I need to take time to start my own creative ideas.
The first project ends up being something I call “One Second Every Day”. Basically I record one second of every day for the rest of my life, combining these moments into one single continuous video until I can’t record them anymore. 3 There’re many things I have no recollection of unless someone brings them up, and I think, “Oh, that’s something I did.”
4 On a good day, I’ll have maybe four seconds I want to choose. I’ll just have to narrow them down to one, but even narrow them down to that one allows me to remember the other three anyway.
I don’t use any filters (滤镜), just trying to catch the moment as much as possible as it is. I started a rule of the first person view. Early on, I thought I should have a couple of videos where people would see me, but I realized that wasn’t the way to go. 5
The project has many possibilities. I encourage you all to record just a small piece of your life every day, so you can never forget that day and treasure every moment.
A.It instantly inspired me.
B.The purpose is to remember what I’ve done.
C.I’m always energetic when doing things I love.
D.People might have different interpretations of it.
E.It’s difficult, sometimes, to pick that one second.
F.But I never had time for one I wanted to work on on my own.
G.The essence of my project should be recording the thing as I actually see it.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest, I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny, and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.
