Do you want to go out for a picnic on a sunny day How can you take a “green” trip to protect the environment Walk, bike, take the subway… or maybe drive a solar-powered car!
A team of 22 Dutch university students has created a solar-powered car called Stella Vita. Last October, they completed the car’s first road trip. The 2,800-kilometer trip was powered only by the sun.
Stella Vita is a two-passager car with a kitchen, a sitting area, a bed, a shower and a toilet. There are solar panels (板) on the top of the car. And the solar panels can spread out when the car is parked.
On sunny days, Stella Vita can travel up to 720 kilometers with a top speed of 120 kilometers an hour. The energy it gets from the sun can also be used for other things. People can cook, take a shower and watch TV in the car. On cloudy days, the car still gets 60% to 70% of the energy.
How can the car keep going at night Well, it has a large battery (电池) that can store energy. This allows the car to travel up to 600 kilometers at night.
Stella Vita isn’t the Dutch team’s first solar car. Since it was set up ten years ago, the team has created different types of solar cars. The team members are working to introduce this green way of traveling. Let’s hope that in the future and we can all travel “by” the sun!

I’m a 34-year-old man, married, lived in a nice house, and have a successful career. But my life was not always so great. I had a learning disability from an early age. My life improved greatly when I discovered art. The art world gave me a chance to express myself without words. I went to a workshop and gradually became good at making things with clay. After about five years of climbing, I found myself in Yosemite Valley on a big wall. I learned that if you fall in love with something and do it all the time, you will get better at it.

A British supermarket became the first in the world to let customers pay by using just the veins(静脉) in their fingers in September, 2017.
Customers at the Costcutter store, at Brunel University in London, can now pay by using their vein map.
The company behind the technology, Sthaler, said it was in “serious talks” with other big British supermarkets to use high-technology finger vein scanners(扫描器).
It works by using infrared(红外线) to scan people's finger veins and then connects this map with their bank cards.Customers' bank details are then stored with payment provider Worldpay, in the same way you can store your card details when shopping online.Shoppers can then go to the supermarket with nothing on them but their own hands and use it to make payments in just three seconds. It requires the person to be alive. It means that if a criminal cuts off someone's finger, it would not work.
It's reported that fingerprint recognition(指纹识别),used widely on mobile phones now,is unsafe and can be copied even from finger smears(指纹残留) left on phone screens. But vein technology is safer as it cannot be copied or stolen.
Sthaler said nearly fifty students were already using the system and it expected 3,000 students out of 13, 000 to have signed up by November.
Simon Binns, commercial director of Sthaler, told The Daily Telegraph, “This makes payments so much easier for customers. This is the safest form.”

Are you learning a foreign language Do you know what a successful language learner should do
First of all, successful language learners are independent (独立的) learners. They do not depend on books or teachers. They find out their own ways to learn the language. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, they try to find methods and rules for themselves. They also look for clues (线索) and get their own ideas by guessing (猜测). When they guess wrong, they try again. They try to learn from their mistakes. It is more important for them to learn to think than to know the meaning of every word.
Successful language learning is active learning, so successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language. They usually look for such a chance. They find native speakers and ask them for help when they make mistakes. They will try everything to communicate. They are not afraid to what they hear or to say strange things. Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose (目的). They want to learn the language because they are interested in native speakers' lives. It is necessary for them to learn the language in order to communicate with foreigners and learn about their lives, their cultures and so on.
