ChatGPT, designed by OpenAI to carry on conversations just like humans, has become a viral excitement. The AI-powered tool went from zero to a million users in just five days! Its ability to provide in-depth answers to user questions has even drawn the attention of distinguished technology companies.
The intelligent robot understands what the user says or types and then responds in a way that makes sense. Its vast body of knowledge has been gathered from the internet and archived books. It is further trained by humans. This makes ChatGPT a useful tool for researching almost any topic.
“We have a lot of information on the internet, but you normally have to Google it, then read it and then do something with it,” says Ricardo, chief science officer and co-founder of AI company Erudit. “Now you’ll have this resource that can process the whole internet and all of the information it contains for you to answer your question.”
ChatGPT cannot think on its own. It depends on the information that it has been trained on. As a result, the AI tool works well for things that have accurate data available. However, when unsure, ChatGPT can get creative and flow out incorrect responses. OpenAI cautions users to check the information no matter how logical it sounds. Also, ChatGPT has only been trained with information till 2021. Hence, it cannot be relied upon for anything that happened after that.
Experts believe ChatGPT has limitless potential to solve real-world problems. It can translate long texts into different languages, create content on almost any topic, and even summarize books.
However, ChatGPT has received mixed reactions from educators. Some believe it could serve as a valuable tool to help build literacy skills in the classroom. It could also be used to teach students difficult science or math concepts. But other educators think ChatGPT will encourage students to cheat. They fear this will prevent them from building critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As a result, many districts are starting to ban its use in schools.
24. What is the unique feature of ChatGPT
A. It has artificial intelligence. B. It can answer users’ questions.
C. It has the largest number of users. D. It can engage in meaningful conversations.
25. What makes ChatGPT helpful to research various topics
A. Its capability of information processing. B. Its accurate information.
C. Its availability of up-to-date data. D. Its vast body of questions.
26. Why do ChatGPT users have to be cautious when using it
A. ChatGPT is unable to think itself. B. ChatGPT lacks creativity.
C. ChatGPT offers illogical information. D. ChatGPT is not properly trained.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards ChatGPT
A. Favorable. B. Disapproving. C. Objective. D. Intolerant.
D 25. A 26. A 27. C

C
You dash through a crowded railway station, tripping over bags, spilling (泼出) your coffee, only to have the doors slide shut in your face, leaving you breathless on the platform as the train pulls away.
But at least, if you’re in France, someone may be playing the piano for you. But it won’t be performed by a paid musician, or even a street entertainer playing for coins. It will just be a random passer-by, jamming for the fun of it on one of the pianos that the national railroad company, S. N. C. F., has fixed in nearly 100 stations across France. They are free for anyone to play, and travelers from all walks of life have taken to doing just that.
Gares & Connexions, the S. N. C. F. division that manages its stations, rents the instruments from the producer, Yamaha: which maintains them and tunes them every month or two. The first one was set up in the Gare Montparnasse in Paris in 2012.
The music, mixed with the sounds of shouting passengers, screaming trains and rolling suitcases, gives French stations a special soundscape. The amateur musicians have included Irish soccer fans and even babies. In 2014, Gares & Connexions and Yamaha organized a nationwide contest called Your Turn to Play, asking participants to submit videos of themselves using one of the pianos. It drew nearly 900 entries.
Isn’t the railroad company taking a big chance Apparently not: “None of the instruments has been vandalized to this day, or even merely damaged,” said Claire Foumon, a spokeswoman for Gares & Connexions. “They are shared and respected by all.”
So if you miss a train in Paris; Bordeaux or Marseille one day, perhaps someone will be playing a favorite piece that will ease your pain. Or perhaps you’ll sit down and play your annoyance away yourself.
28. Why did Gares & Connexions fix pianos in railway stations
A. To advertise Yamaha’s products. B. To make stations more attractive.
C. To let travelers have a relaxing trip. D. To help street artists make a living.
29. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us
A. The contest has proved a hit. B. The pianos are very popular.
C. Railway stations are crowded. D. Everyone can be an amateur musician.
30. What does the underlined word “vandalized” in Paragraph 5 probably mean
A Selected carefully. B. Checked regularly.
C. Reserved in advance. D. Destroyed on purpose.
31. What would be the best title for the text
A. Miss a train yet catch a tune B. A soundscape in the memory
C. The role of piano in French life D. An amazing train with a piano bar
C 29. B 30. D 31. A
It will just be a random passer - by, jamming for the fun of it on one of the pianos that the national railroad company, S. N. C. F., has fixed in nearly 100 stations across France.
The amateur musicians have included Irish soccer fans and even babies.以及It drew nearly 900 entries.
根据本句None of the instruments以及or even merely damaged可知,没有一件钢琴受损,相反,They are shared and respected by all.
They are shared and respected by all,就可以得出vandalise这词属于贬义,意思应与damaged接近,再结合选项,我们就能把答案选出来。
D
Being deaf in a hearing world can lead to painful feelings of isolation (孤独).
Waitress Kelsey recently shared an experience on a social media sharing site that quickly zoomed (陡直上升) to the top of the “ front page of the Internet”. In her brief post, Kelsey explained that she waits tables at a bar during the evenings, and one night she noticed a deaf man sitting alone in her section (区域).
When Kelsey isn’t working at the bar she makes a good hourly pay doing sign language interpretation (翻译), so she sensed an opportunity to use her skill to make this customer feel a little less alone in the world. She approached his table and began chatting with him in sign language.
When the table next to his noticed their silent conversation they asked Kelsey how long she’d been signing. They had a brief conversation about her goal of becoming certified (合格的) to interpret sign language in a medical or mental health setting. She didn’t think much about the whole exchange until the customers had left the restaurant and she was tidying up the tables. There, on the table of the customers who’d seen her American sign language conversation with the deaf man, was a handwritten note on the receipt.
“Thank you for what you do; it absolutely matters!” the note said. “Good luck with finishing your degree!” Not only that, but they’d left her a $100 tip.
Kelsey was moved by the kind note, especially because she wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. To her, she was just conversing with someone in a language that only they understood. Yet to the deaf man and the people seated next to him she’d bridged a gap and helped someone who probably feels lonely a lot of the time.
Kelsey shared the note on the Internet to spread more love and light in the world.
32. What do we know about Kelsey’s work at the bar?
A. It is her part-time job.
B. It goes beyond her ability.
C. It requires her to work all day long.
D. It offers her a chance to learn sign language.
33. What can we infer about the deaf man
A. He left Kelsey $100 as a tip.
B. He could use sign language.
C. He found it hard to communicate with Kelsey.
D. He was a friend of the customers at the next table.
34. What did the people at the table next to the deaf man think of Kelsey
A She is wasting time working as a waitress. B. She needs to study further for a degree.
C. She should use the Internet as a tool. D. She is so kind to serve those in need.
35. What lesson can we learn from Kelsey’s experience
A. Practice makes perfect. B. It is never too late to learn.
C. Kindness is repaid with kindness. D. When in Rome, do as Romans do.
A 33. B 34. D 35. C

In her brief post, Kelsey explained that she waits tables at a bar during the evenings, and one night she noticed a deaf man sitting alone in her section.(在她简短的帖子中,Kelsey解释说她晚上在酒吧里当服务员,一天晚上她注意到一个耳聋顾客独自坐在她的区域)及第三段中When Kelsey isn’t working at the bar she makes a good hourly pay doing sign language interpretation, so she sensed an opportunity to use her skill to make this customer feel a little less alone in the world.(当Kelsey不在酒吧工作的时候,她通过做手语翻译获得了不错的时薪,所以她觉得有机会利用她的技能让这位顾客在这个世界上感到不那么孤独)可知,这份酒吧工作是Kelsey的兼职工作。故选A。
She approached his table and began chatting with him in sign language.
根据第五段中“Thank you for what you do; it absolutely matters!” the note said.
Not only that, but they’d left her a $100 tip.
Praise is like sunlight to the human spirit: we cannot flower and grow without it. And yet, while most of us are only too ready to apply to others the cold wind of criticism, we are somehow reluctant to give our fellows the warm sunshine of praise.
___36___ Perhaps it’s because few of us know how to accept compliments gracefully. Instead, we are embarrassed and shrug off the words we are really so glad to hear. Because of this defensive reaction, direct compliments are surprisingly difficult to give. That is why some of the most valued pats on the back are those which come to us indirectly, in a letter or passed on by a friend.
It’s especially rewarding to give praise in areas in which effort generally goes unnoticed or unmentioned. ___37___ A cook is praised for a perfect meal. But do you ever tell your laundry manager how pleased you are when the shirts are done just right Do you ever praise your paperboy for getting the paper to you on time 365 days a year
Praise is particularly appreciated by those doing routine jobs: gas station attendants, waitresses-even housewives. ___38___ Since so often praise is the only wage a housewife receives, surely she of all people should get her measure.
___39___ It only takes a moment’s thought and a moment’s effort perhaps a quick phone call to pass on a compliment, or five minutes spent writing an appreciative letter. It is such a small investment and yet consider the results it may produce. ___40___
So, let’s be alert to the small excellences around us and comment on them. We will not only bring joy into other people’s lives, but also, very often, add happiness into our own.
A. We are accustomed to accepting praise.
B. A student is ignored despite his good work.
C. To give praise costs the giver almost nothing.
D. It’s strange how cautious we are about praising
E. Shakespeare said, “Our praises are our wages.”
F. An artist gets complimented for a glorious picture.
G. “I can live for two months on a good compliment,” said Mark Twain.
D 37. F 38. E 39. C 40. G
分析设空可知,空处位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“Instead, we are embarrassed and shrug off the words we are really so glad to hear. Because of this defensive reaction, direct compliments are surprisingly difficult to give. That is why some of the most valued pats on the back are those which come to us indirectly, in a letter or passed on by a friend.(相反,我们感到尴尬,对我们真正高兴听到的话不屑一顾。由于这种防御反应,直接的赞美是非常困难的。这就是为什么一些最有价值的鼓励是来自于间接的,来自于一封信或朋友的传递)”可知,本段主要是在讲,我们不会随便赞美他人,所以D项“It’s strange how cautious we are about praising.(奇怪的是,我们对赞美是如此谨慎)”符合文意。故选D项。
【37题详解】
根据前文“It’s especially rewarding to give praise in areas in which effort generally goes unnoticed or unmentioned.(在那些努力通常被忽视或不被提及的领域给予表扬尤其有益)”可知,本段主要讲述了给那些被忽视或不被提及的人以鼓励会更有益,再根据后文“A cook is praised for a perfect meal.(厨师因一顿完美的饭菜而受到表扬)”可知,此处在举反例,所以空处应也是反例,所以F项“An artist gets complimented for a glorious picture.(一位艺术家因一幅辉煌的画而受到称赞)”符合文意。故选F项。
根据后文“Since so often praise is the only wage a housewife receives, surely she of all people should get her measure.(既然赞美常常是一个家庭主妇唯一得到的报酬,那么她当然应该得到她应得的报酬)”可知,赞美常常是有些人得到的唯一报酬。所以E项“Shakespeare said, “Our praises are our wages.”(莎士比亚说过:“赞美是我们的工资。”)”
分析设空可知,空处位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“It only takes a moment’s thought and a moment’s effort perhaps a quick phone call to pass on a compliment, or five minutes spent writing an appreciative letter. It is such a small investment and yet consider the results it may produce.(这只需要片刻的思考和片刻的努力,也许是一个快速的电话传递赞美,或花五分钟写一封感激的信。这是一笔很小的投资,但考虑一下它可能产生的结果)”可知,赞美他人不需要什么代价,所以C项“To give praise costs the giver almost nothing.(给予赞美者几乎不需要付出任何代价)”符合文意。故选C项。
【40题详解】
分析设空可知,空处位于段尾,应该是对前文的总结或者前句的说明,根据前文“It is such a small investment and yet consider the results it may produce.(这是一笔很小的投资,但考虑一下它可能产生的结果)”可知,后文应写后果,所以G项““I can live for two months on a good compliment,”said Mark Twain.(马克·吐温说过:“只凭一句赞美的话我就可以充实地活上两个月。”)”

After class, I'll show you around our school and tell you something about it. If you have any problem, please tell me and I will give you my advice not only on study but also on your life here.

It was cool and bright and just right for running. I was in the first few miles of a 10-mile race through some hills. Birds were singing on the trees. The soft wind was brushing my cheeks. I felt rested and springy. Despite the hills, I thought it was going to be a fine run.
Ahead was Blake, a student from Burke High School. He was running easily, too, moving along efficiently. The pace felt comfortable, so I decided to stay where he was; why bother concentrating on pace when Blake was such a nice pacesetter for me I would overtake Blake later on when he used up energy.
So I ran closely behind him. The course headed north for five miles, wandered west for a mile, and then turned south again. The race was getting tougher. With three miles to go, it was beginning to be real hard work. My lungs were on fire, and legs felt like stone.
Blake overtook the boy in front of him. Apparently he knew the boy, for they exchanged a few words. Their brief communication worried me. Runners don’t chat during a race unless they feel really good, and Blake plainly was. There was still a noticeable bounce in his steps, but the springiness I had once possessed was gone.
Still, I was close enough to overtake Blake if he was tired, so I didn’t give up hope completely. We were approaching a hill, a mile from the finish line, so whatever happened on the hill would almost certainly determine who crossed it first.
As I moved up the hill, my attention wandered for a few minutes. When I looked up, Blake was moving away, first five yards, then ten, then more. There was no hope of catching Blake.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A reporter took a picture of this moving scene and posted it online
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully. Then I hurried up and ran up to him, only to find that his leg was cramping. I tried to help him stand and move forward, but he refused. He asked me to run after the others so that I could get the first place. I thought for a second and decided to accompany him for a rest. Then we ran slowly forward together. Although we ran slowly and were overtaken by others, I felt relaxed and we finally crossed the finish line together.
A reporter took a picture of this moving scene and posted it online. During the time, the photo got a lot of likes. Many strangers sent the emails to praise me about the incident. In fact, I was a little hesitant at the beginning, but the moment I decided to help Blake, I felt calm and relaxed. I’m happy that I did the right thing.

Kelsey shared the note on the Internet to spread more love and light in the world

It was cool and bright and just right for running. I was in the first few miles of a 10-mile race through some hills. Birds were singing on the trees. The soft wind was brushing my cheeks. I felt rested and springy. Despite the hills, I thought it was going to be a fine run.
Ahead was Blake a student from Burke High School.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully.
