Today, fireworks mark celebrations all over the world. From ancient China to the New World, fireworks have developed a lot. The very first fireworks didn’t do much more than pop (爆炸), but modern ones can create lots of shapes, many colors and different sounds. People shoot fireworks into the sky when they are celebrating a great event. They fill the dark sky with bright reds, blues, yellows, greens and whites.
Fireworks give joy and pleasure to millions of people every year, but they have to be treated with great care because they are dangerous. Get too close to them and they could burn you badly or even kill you. That’s why the sale and use of fireworks is restricted (限制) by law in many countries. If you’re having anything to do with fireworks, be sure to read and follow all the safety instructions.

Few of us have heard of Nils Bohlin, but whenever we take a car journey, his invention makes us safer. Found in almost every modern car, the three-point seat belt reduces our chances of death or injury(伤害)by at least 50%. While feeling thankful to this engineer from Volvo, you may also wonder how he came up with such a great idea.
Having worked as a plane designer before, Nils knew clearly that the pilots were willing to put on anything to keep them safe in an accident, but to his surprise, most people in the cars just didn’t want to be uncomfortable for even a minute. To improve the safety for people in the cars, he decided to find a perfect system which should be simple, effective and convenient. In the end, he invented the three-point seat belt, which has been considered as one of the greatest inventions in history.
Seat belts prevent people in the cars from serious injury in five ways.
Keep people inside. People who are thrown out from a car are four times more likely to be killed than those who stay inside.
Protect the strongest parts of the body. Seat belts are designed to fix your body at its strongest parts. For an older child and adult, these parts are the hips(臀部) and shoulders.
Spread out the force in an accident. Seat belts spread the force of the accident over a wide area of the body. By putting less stress on one area, they can help you avoid serious injury. Seat belts also help keep your upper body away from the hard parts of the car if you stop suddenly or hit by another car.
Help the body to slow down. A quick speed causes injury. With the help of the seat belts, your body can have more time to slow down in an accident.
Protect your brain and spinal cord(脊柱). Seat belts are designed to protect these two key areas of the human body. Head and spinal cord injuries may be hard to see immediately, but they can cause death. Therefore, it’s of great importance to protect these parts.
It takes only a few seconds to buckle up(系好安全带)once you get in the car, but this simple action could save your life. Why wouldn’t you
13.Three-point seat belts reduce chances of death or injury by at least ________.

(2022秋·北京海淀·九年级101中学校考阶段练习)Many people have talked about whether or not computing machines can think. Can they or can’t they
Almost certainly, a machine can do any work in thinking that a person can do—if the correct way for doing the thinking work can be told exactly. Besides, many programs have been made to direct machines so that they work in very clever ways. Machines have been taught to play chess and to learn from what happens in the games so as to make their play better and better. Machines can beat many persons who play chess. Machines can translate from one language to another. They can prove statements. In geometry(几何) as taught in school. Machines can notice printed marks on paper, so that a person is no longer needed to look at the marks.
Computers can be used in many ways, such as business, science, industry, and puters study oil-field examinations made by airplanes; they keep record of oil sales; they study the working condition of the machines; they help in planning and producing oil; and much more.
If people cannot tell exactly the correct way to do certain work in thinking, it is still a question how much of this work a machine can do. Suppose a person is “teaching” the machine and telling the machine “yes” when the machine is right, and “no” when the machine is wrong. Then the machine can keep on searching among possible ways for solving a problem-until the machine can do as well as the person, and perhaps much better.
But, what is thinking People can agree about much that is thinking, and much that is not thinking; but they can’t reach agreement because the word “think” is not a scientific word with an exact meaning. A lot of the discussion is wasted breath because the persons are using different meanings of the word “think”.
People, however, have only had experience with machines that appear to think since 1944. It would be too early to say that after the next 200 years, machines will not be thinking. And to consider that machines can think gives people a big push to give to machines more and more work in thinking.
17.The underlined part in paragraph three is about computers used in ________.
A.education B.industry C.sports D.government
18.What is the main idea of paragraph five
A.There is much to say about thinking. B.People discuss a lot about thinking.
C.People already know what thinking is. D.There is no answer to what thinking is.
19.Which is probably the best title for the passage
A.What Is Thinking B.Can Machines Be Taught to Think
C.Can Machines Think D.Can Machines Beat All Checkers Players
(2023秋·北京顺义·九年级统考期末)Because of a lack of trained lifeguards to watch over swimming pools, a team of scientists from Germany has developed an underwater robot to help lifeguards in rescuing (救援) swimmers in emergencies.
According to scientists, there are some typical postures that you can use to recognize when someone is in danger. The robot has been tested in a variety of settings including indoor pools and open water. If swimmers’ movements are consistent with drowning (溺亡), the information of the drowning person will be sent out, which is stored in a docking station on the pool floor, and it will be released by a signal from the monitoring cameras. Once the robot receives the signal and reaches its destination, it will carry the endangered person to the surface. What’s more, the robot is designed with a set of moving parts to keep the lifeless person from sliding down as the robot surfaces.
When the robot is tested at lakes and other outdoor settings, drones (无人机) took on the task of the monitoring cameras. For rescues in swimming lakes where the visibility is limited, the underwater vehicle must be equipped with acoustic sensors (声音传感器). Sound wave echoes can be used to determine people’s positions so precisely that the robot can autonomously head for the target person and pick them up. When the robot is informed of an emergency (紧急情况), a signal will warn the team immediately.
“The current system is 90 centimeters long, 50 centimeters high, and 50 centimeters wide and looks like an underwater submersible that might be used for exploring ship wrecks. The central innovation (创新)of the system is the side folding wings that fix lifeless people on a stretcher without injuring them. To bring them to the surface of the water, balloons are filled with a total of 15 to 20 kilos of buoyancy (浮力).
The research team are still doing research on the robot, aiming to make future versions smaller, lighter and less expensive. At present, a patent has already been filed for the aquatic robot. In modified versions, it can take on further tasks—such as offshore and dam wall (坝墙)inspections or being used to monitor the health of fish in fish farms.
20.Why did German scientists invent an underwater robot
A.To help lifeguards to rescue.
B.To prevent swimmers practicing.
C.To check if there are emergencies.
D.To watch over the swimming pools.
21.The expression “be released” in Paragraph 2 probably means “______”.
A.be sent out B.be controlled
C.be taken up D.be delivered
22.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A.A Robot to Build Dam Walls B.A Robot to Prevent Drowning
C.A Robot to Protect Lifeguards D.A Robot to Improve Swimmers’ Skills

(2022秋·福建厦门·九年级厦门市华侨中学校考期中)The birth of the black tea and the first to reach the Western world from Fujian originated by accident. A Chinese army happened to stop by a tea farm in the late Ming Dynasty (1368—1644)and the soldiers slept on raw tea leaves which were intended for green tea making. Helpless and eager to avoid further loss, the anxious tea producer roasted the withered(枯萎的), with pine branches, ending up with a deep colored tea, a smoky taste and sweet flavour(香味). To the tea farmer’s surprise, and the whole area started to make the kind of tea to satisfy(满足) market demand.
